Mr. Habyalimana is an independent consultant focusing on business development and financial inclusion. He is an experienced and accredited trainer in areas of management of microfinance institutions, products diversification (International Training Centre/ International Labour Organization), corporate governance (International Finance Corporation), as well as consumer protection and institutional assessment (the Smart Campaign).

He has facilitated dozens of trainings in Rwanda and beyond, in areas of Entrepreneurship in Tourism (ESAMI, Tanzania), visitor management, nature interpretation and Gorilla FriendlyTM (Rwanda, Uganda, DR Congo), microfinance management, internal controls, consumer protection for microfinance institutions (Rwanda), Making Microfinance Work for Improved Performance, Making Microfinance Work : Managing Product Diversification, Making Microfinance Work for Refugees (Rwanda, Zambia, Uganda), Governance for Microfinance institutions, risk management, managing savings and credit, human resources management for microfinance institutions, business planning, financial analysis, and market analysis (Rwanda). Currently, Straton Habyalimana is a training facilitator for Africa Management Institute (AMI).

He is also an experienced training modules developer and has developed several training modules for organizations such as the Rwandan Institute of Cooperatives, Entrepreneurship and Microfinance (RICEM), East African and Southern Management Institute (ESAMI), the German Sparkassenstiftung for International Cooperation (DSIK) Eastern Africa, Business Development Fund (BDF), and Rwanda Development Board (RDB).

Regarding business consultancy, Mr. Habyalimana supports public and private organizations in the area of project management (designing projects ; proposal writing, baseline research, mid-term and end project evaluation), sector assessments, and strategy development.

Prior to becoming an independent consultant, he has worked for the SEEP Network as the Senior Program Manager for the Responsible Finance through Local Leadership and Learning (RFL3) Program, based in Kigali, Rwanda. In that position, Mr. Habyalimana was responsible for the program activities, including stakeholder engagement, learning and knowledge exchange on consumer protection practices. Before joining SEEP, he has led programs focusing on capacity building for local development actors in East and Central Africa (Rwanda, Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda, Kenya and Ethiopia) since 2002.

Mr. Habyalimana has completed his MBA (Project Management) from the Maastricht School of Management outreach program in Kigali, Rwanda ; and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Kigali Independent University, and an Associate Bachelor’s degree in Microfinance and Community Economic Development from Uganda Martyrs University. He is fluent in both English and French.
