Julien MAFUTALA is member of the Board of Rwanda Institute of Cooperatives, Entrepreneurship and Microfinance. He is a Rwandan economist who has oriented his profession towards the microfinance sector. His main mission is to help microfinance institutions implement good savings management in order, to transform savings into profitable loans for the sustainability of the organization and the improvement of the living conditions of its target population.
Julien MAFUTALA is a passionate of development and the fight against poverty. He was part of the Union des Banques Populaires du Rwanda Inspectors team, which stimulated the growth of all Banques Populaires du Rwanda until their peak.
Currently, he is the Managing Director of SAGER GANZA MICROFINANCE PLC. This organization has more than 26,000 clients with more than one billion Rwandan francs of total assets. Julien MAFUTALA transformed the vision of this microfinance institution and establish professional practices for its profitability. His vision and the practices put in place have allowed microfinance to move from a long period of losses before the current Managing Director to an increasing phase of qualitative and quantitative performance.
In particular, improving the quality of life of its customers and staff, improving the quality of its loan portfolio, the growth of its depositors and savings, the considerable growth of its equity and its asset. Currently, this microfinance is facing to the economic and financial crisis due to COVID19 and it is maintaining its balance because of the new strategies put in place.
He is holder of a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and received during his career a numerous trainings that supplemented his extensive hands-on experience. He is fluent in French, English, Swahili and Kinyarwanda.
